Moves afoot to tighten up aviation legislation

THE CIVIL Aviation Authority is in the process of finalising a document intended to harmonise all legislation and Acts pertaining to aviation in South Africa as a step to increasing the penalties for transgressions against the regulations. “The minister of transport initially gave us very little time to work through the current legislation and produce a congruent document,” Colin Jordaan from the CAA told a Ciltsa air cargo conference in Johannesburg last week. “We have worked through all the anomalies and a draft document is currently being promulgated that will ensure more than a slap on the wrist, which is where the current legislation falls short.”
