Mossel Bay ramps up security

The Port of Mossel Bay has undergone a major revamp in recent years and the facelift is far from over. According to port engineer Errol Baartman, some R130 million has been spent in the past few years upgrading and renovating various aspects of the port. “This includes the access roads as well as repairs to the quays and breakwater,” he said. Baartman said another major achievement for the port was the refurbishment of an historic slipway, which is considered a heritage cradle. “The slipway is now used for ship repairs and can handle vessels of up to 280 tons,” he said. Other upgrades include the installation of a CCTV network that has seen a dramatic improvement in safety while the entire power supply system to the port has been refurbished.
