Amid rising fuel costs
and port congestion, the
Ministry of Energy in
Kenya is in the process of
commissioning a feasibility
study for an offshore jetty
facility that will reduce
crowding and allow entry
of larger vessels into the
country’s crowded port.
Inadequate petroleum
infrastructure at the Port of
Mombasa, along with the
steep petrol price hikes due
to the rising costs of oil,
have led to heavy traffic
build-up at the port.
Last Monday the
Ministry said consultations
between government
departments and the Kenya
Ports Authority were taking
place to ensure proper
coordination of the project.
Fuel supply has been
a problem in Kenya as
international oil prices have
risen due to the unrest in
the Middle East and North
Africa.
In addition, a multimillion
upgrade of the ports
was also announced.
Mombasa plans massive upgrade
