KEVIN MAYHEW THE CEO of the Road Freight Association, Sipho Khumalo, has met with State President Thabo Mbeki to discuss how the freight sector can assist with national development to achieve economic growth of six percent. The meeting – held earlier this month in Pretoria – culminated in the RFA being invited to become a member of the Presidential Working Group on the role of business in development. The Group – which comprises cabinet ministers and business leaders across the spectrum - has the task of forwarding meaningful solutions for small to medium enterprise development, human resource development, local economic development, regulatory frameworks and labour absorption, according to a statement from Khumalo. “All these engagements are founded on the profound understanding that there is a huge overlap between the economic interests of the road freight industry and the development objectives of the country."
