The six berth reconstruction and deepening in Maydon Wharf, Durban has been concluded, with berths 3 and 4 handed over by Transnet Group Capital earlier this month, says port manager Moshe Motlohi in the latest edition of the monthly Port Monitor newsletter.
He said all six berths had now been reconstructed and deepened and were fully operational. “The berths were handed over by Shane Perumal, New Engineering Contract (NEC 3) project manager from Transnet Group Capital to Transnet National Ports Authority’s port engineer and project and operations team, a month ahead of communicated berth outage periods,” Motlohi said.
He pointed out that the berths had been completed just in time to receive a rice vessel scheduled to berth alongside for full operations.
“Work currently taking place at berths 3 and 4 relates to additional scope and does not impact the operations of the quay wall,” added Motlohi.
