Living up to its reputation as one of the most effective out of over 100 Customs Port Control Units (PCU) worldwide, the Port of Santos seized 1 482kg of cocaine last week from a container bound for Antwerp, Belgium.
Based on indicators developed using risk analysis techniques and X-ray technology, a container filled with bags of granulated sugar was selected for control. Dr Kunio Mikuriya secretary-general of the World Customs Organisation, said that the success of the operation underlined the success of the Container Control Programme.
