The present and future faces of shipping in South Africa took time out in Cape Town last month to celebrate World Maritime Day (WMD) as Safmariners shared their experiences and insights with students at the Lawhill Maritime Centre in Simonstown. The United Nations (UN), via the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), created WMD to celebrate the international maritime industry’s contribution to the world economy, especially in shipping.
