The Malawi High Court has ordered a ban on protest at the country's airports and border crossings to avert chaos at the entry points into Malawi, according to well-placed sources.
This after threats to shut down the country on Monday with a planned three-day stay-away in protest “against certain government policies that were implemented after the May 2019 elections”.
The High Court ruled that peaceful demonstrations could be held anywhere in the country except at airports and borders.
Transtech Consolidators told FTW Online that their agents had advised that traffic was moving through the border and that although there were some protests in and around Blantyre, there had been a strong police presence and the nationwide impact had been very diluted. Most people were at work, they said.
