A BUSINESS slowdown has seen the demise of Maersk Line's SA-West Africa-USEC (US east coast) multi-purpose service.
The FlexCon route had a breakbulk and containerised cargo offering, but the service was discontinued due to lack of interest, according to a company spokesman in Denmark.
Cargo movement on the trade with the line will, however, continue to be available, according to Jorn Nielsen, g.m. of. Maersk SA.
The line's SA-Europe service is routed via the Algeciras hub in Spain, and provides transhipment from there for on-carriage to the US. Algeciras also has a number of Maersk services into the West Coast chain of ports.
