IT'S NOW official. Lloyd Triestino has confirmed the report, which was first published in FTW on March 26, 1999 that MSC will in future carry all LT boxes between Europe and West and Southern Africa.
Tim Hastie, liner executive for Combine Ocean SA, agents for the Italian shipping line, told FTW that the new arrangement, in which Lloyd Triestino will purchase slots from Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), will begin officially from June.
Lloyd Triestino's established Mediterranean / West African to South Africa trade will now link directly, with no transhipment, on a weekly basis
the ports of Livorno,
La Spezia, Marseilles, Barcelona, Valencia, Dakar, Abidjan, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban, using slots purchased from MSC. In addition this means that LT is now able to offer a direct weekly service between North Europe, covering the ports of Felixtowe and Antwerp with South Africa, he said.
The new arrangement also means that LT is able to offer a weekly service to West African ports from North Europe by using a shuttle service from North Europe to Valencia, he said.
LT has continued to maintain a fifty-year link to West and Southern Africa.
Lloyd Triestino was previousy involved in a joint service with SCL in the Med.
