KING & Sons (Mozambique) is on the growth path with the acquisition this year of several new ships agency appointments and a change in its shareholding.
All the current offices, situated at Maputo, Beira, Quelimane and Nacala, have been upgraded in terms of staff and equipment, and a new office has been opened at Pemba.
The launch of Mozline, a newly formed Mozambique coastal liner service, has largely motivated these developments.
Mozline is a joint venture between Unicorn Lines of South Africa, Tertir of Portugal and various local Mozambique investors. The line will serve the major ports of Mozambique calling Maputo, Beira, Quelimane, Nacala and Pemba on a regular scheduled basis.
The shareholding of K&S (Mozambique) is in the process of change and by the end of June will comprise Monclova Investments (a joint venture between Grindrod of SA and SDV of France); Tertir or Portugal; Permar of Mozambique; and Mozambican entrepreneur Jose Manuel Martins da Rocha Antunes.
This multi-national shareholding will rank the company among the foremost players in Mozambique and position it well for the continuing rehabilitation of the Mozambique economy which is being progressively opened up to private enterprise, said John Williamson, chairman of Monclova Investments.
