KEVIN MAYHEW MANICA AFRICA – which has one of the largest bond facilities available – handles all types of cargo through its offices at the Nkomazi Border Plaza. Branch controller Riaan le Roux says they are being called on to handle anything from ferrochrome to sugar for export while citrus and bananas are beginning to move as well. He says the combination of the success of the Maputo Corridor, Maputo port improvements, and general upgrading of facilities at the Lebombo border post is playing to Mozambique’s advantage. “From the office space that is now more formalised at the Nkomazi Border Plaza to the plans to create a class facility for drivers and all those involved in the industry, it is all going to make this route more attractive,” he said. Manica reopened its branch at Komatipoort in July last year in the light of increasing traffic volumes. “This town is on the move, the property prices are rocketing and there is every indication that it is not a short-term boom,” he says confidently.
Komatipoort becomes increasingly attractive
