KUEHNE & Nagel, intent on growing its perishables business significantly, has relocated its perishables export manager Brett Moore to Johannesburg to take charge of the newly-created portfolio of product development manager, perishables.
Though sad to leave the Fairest Cape, Moore (39) agrees that being based at K&N's head office in Rosebank makes sense as the company has a large citrus and tropical fruit client base in Mpumalanga and Gauteng.
Nationally, the perishables client base of more than 30 includes Komati Fruits, Cape Citrus, Yukon International, Woolworths and Direct Fruit Marketing.
According to Moore K&N's objective of growing the perishables business has yielded fruit, so to speak, over the past two and a half years, but growth has meant that a few changes have become necessary to meet the demands of increased business.
"To this effect we have incorporated the perishables function into the various sea and airfreight departments (import and export) within our organisation throughout Southern Africa as opposed to a central office in Cape Town.
"This will speed up work and improve our service levels which is already evident since the change was implemented in mid-June."
Working from Johannesburg will also allow him to concentrate more on the Eastern Cape export market which includes citrus, pineapples and ostrich.
Moore, joined Kuehne & Nagel two and a half years ago after having lectured at the Maritime Institute in Cape Town. He was previously logistics manager at MSC.
