Investing in resources as volumes grow

Logistics service provider Leschaco has seen a surge in demand for its services in sub-Saharan Africa over the last year, according to the company's CEO for the region, Peter Schmidt-Löff ler.He said Leschaco's customers were looking for a trusted and reliable service provider, and the company's weekly direct service from Bremen had proven to be just that. "We have seen a significant increase in volumes over the last year which demonstrates the trust our customers have in our regular and very reliable weekly direct service from Bremen," he told Freight News.Schmidt-Löffler highlighted the importance of customer trust in the logistics industry. “While Leschaco, globally, offers consolidation services for the chemical industry, we have seen support from all other sectors in South Africa. Manufacturing and automotive are some of the industries where we have seen increased volumes in shipments.”He said the company’s ability to meet these needs had led to its success in the region, and the team was dedicated to continuing to provide top-quality services to its customers.“Leschaco is a global brand with offices in 25 countries,” said Schmidt-Löff ler. “We have expertise when it comes to consolidated containers and piece goods. Regular departures guarantee the reliable and quick transportation of LCL goods to all the regions of the world, as well as short transit times. Our LCL service offers greater f lexibility as businesses can ship smaller quantities of goods on a more frequent basis.”This, he said, played an important role in meeting changing customer demands and ensuring that businesses had the inventory they needed to stay competitive.Investment into resources was an ongoing priority for the local team. “More recently we have seen Simon Chalker join our team in Durban, where he will be heading up the KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape regions. With his extensive knowledge in freight forwarding and having had years of experience in the NVOCC/consolidation market, we look forward to growing the consolidation offerings even further,” said Juan Enslin, Leschaco managing director South Africa. He said Leschaco South Africa offered an end-to-end service, ocean and air, import and export, that allowed customers to concentrate on their core business. Enslin acknowledged that there had been some challenges with ports over the past year. However, he emphasised that these issues had been successfully addressed by adopting a proactive approach, keeping a close eye on every shipment, and ensuring that customers were kept informed of developments on the ground at all times.
