The WTO director-general (DG) visited Nairobi, Kenya on 18 July to participate in the 14th meeting of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (Unctad). It is understood that he conducted numerous meetings with ministers and others, took part in the World Leaders Summit and Heads of Agency Roundtable, and participated in a ministerial panel session entitled ‘Where next for the Multilateral Trading System’.
The WTO DG said:
“As the global community looks at delivering on the new Sustainable Development Goals, international organisations, as drivers of change and cooperation, have a vital role to play. WTO and Unctad have a long history of collaboration on this front, ensuring that countries can use trade as a tool to deliver for jobs, growth and development. I have no doubt we will strengthen this partnership this week.”
