Industry leaders to convene for smart trucking talks

The Transport Forum will be holding a high-level industry session titled ‘Driving Sustainable Growth with RTMS and PBS’ on May 14 at the Standard Bank Centre in Kingsmead, Durban.

As the Southern African logistics and supply chain sectors face increasing pressure to optimise efficiency while maintaining safety and environmental standards, this event, in partnership with Standard Bank, serves as a critical platform for stakeholders.

The programme focuses on the dual pillars of the Road Transport Management System (RTMS) and Performance Based Standards (PBS), which are essential for modernising heavy vehicle transport.

The event features a comprehensive line-up of experts, including:

  • Dr. Paul Nordengen, Director of Heavy Vehicle Transport Technology Africa, providing a strategic overview of RTMS and PBS.
  • Mitchell Brooke (Citrus Growers’ Association) and Christian Teffo (Minerals Council South Africa), discussing sectoral logistics developments.
  • Nicci Scott (SaferStops Association) and Oliver Naidoo (JC Auditors), addressing safety standards and compliance.
  • Willie Coetsee (Transnet Port Terminals), offering a strategic overview of port operations.
  • Abdool Kamdar (KDG Logistics), presenting on Green Transport and Net Zero initiatives.

"Sustainable growth in the transport sector is no longer optional; it is a mechanical necessity for the economy," says the Transport Forum.

"By integrating RTMS and PBS, operators can achieve significant gains in payload efficiency and road safety while reducing their carbon footprint."

The session will run from 07h30 to 13h30, concluding with a networking lunch. Both in-person and virtual attendance options are available to ensure broad industry participation.
