Indonesia Launches Safeguard Investigation on Polyethylene

Publish Date:
18 Sep 2024

On 11 September 2024, Indonesia notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) Committee on Safeguards, on 09 September 2024, that it had initiated a safeguard investigation on polyethylene containing 5% or less alpha-olefin monomers in other than liquid/paste form, classifiable in tariff subheading 3901.10.92.

The Investigating Authority is:

The Indonesian Safeguards Committee

Komite Pengamanan Perdagangan Indonesia (KPPI)

Jl. M.I. Ridwan Rais No.5, Building I, 5th floor, Jakarta 10110

The deadline for submissions is 26 September 2024.

The notification is available on request.

What is a safeguard investigation?

A safeguard investigation seeks to determine whether increased imports of a product are causing, or is threatening to cause, serious injury to a domestic industry.

During a safeguard investigation, importers, exporters and other interested parties may present evidence and views and respond to the presentations of other parties.

A WTO member may take a safeguard action (i.e. restrict imports of a product temporarily) only if the increased imports of the product are found to be causing, or threatening to cause, serious injury.
