In the Government Gazette of 23 September 2026, the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) published an erratum notice withdrawing Government Gazette notice 4156 of 2026 and confirming Government Gazette notice 4154 of 2026.
ITAC advised of the following correction regarding the publication of the notice relating to the review of the tariff structure including, inter alia, relevant trade remedy measures and investigation into the introduction of an import surveillance system for paper and paper products classifiable under Tariff Chapters 48.01,48.02, 48.03, 48.04, 48.05, 48.11, 48.18 and 48.23 of the Customs and Excise Act, 1964.
1. Notice 4156 of 2026 was published in the Government Gazette of 17 September 2026. The notice was accompanied by a Government Gazette “cover note” that erroneously referred to the publication as “International Trade Administration Act, 2002: review of tariff structure surveillance system for steel.”
2. To correct this error, the notice was republished on 18 September 2026 in Government Gazette Notice 4154 of 2026. This re-publication reflects the correct notice and classification.
3. Due to this administrative error, stakeholders are informed that Notice 4156 of 2026, published in the Government Gazette on 17 September 2026, is withdrawn.
4. Notice 4154 of 2026, published in the Government Gazette on 18 September 2026, is the valid and operative notice and shall replace Notice 4156 of 2026 for all purposes.
5. All comments, representations and correspondence relating to this matter must therefore be submitted with reference to and in accordance with Notice 4154 of 2026.
ITAC stated that they regretted any confusion or inconvenience caused by the publication error and thanked stakeholders for their understanding.
