The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced an outline of the most topical aviation safety, sustainability and efficiency items it will raise at the ICAO annual assembly in Montreal next week.
IATA said the issues it will raise at the meeting from September 23 to October 3 include ramping up sustainable aviation fuel production, tax measures, passenger rights regulations and safety in terms of timely accident investigation reports. The agenda will also include a call to raise the age limit for commercial airline pilots, mitigations for global navigation satellite system interference, which affects GPS and other aircraft navigation aids, and the preservation of critical radio-frequency spectrum.
Discussions at the meeting will also focus on the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation, the association said.
IATA represents and lobbies for the airline industry with 350 airline members representing over 80% of global air traffic.
ICAO sets best practice baselines and recommends standard procedures for each country’s national civil aviation authority to translate into enforceable regulations applied to civil aviation.
