ALAN PEAT WITH THE peak season for the SA import trade upon us, the Durban branch of the multi-national forwarding operation Kuehne & Nagel has devised a plan to help clients avoid the acute shortages of space prevalent at this time of the year, according to branch manager, Norman Dreyer. “We have again secured pre-negotiated slots with our preferred carriers,” he told FTW, “and can again offer guaranteed space to our clients.” Discussing the export market, Dreyer suggested that Kuehne & Nagel, like the rest of the industry, had also felt the effect of the strong rand. “Due to this, and our expertise in Africa,” he said, “we are focusing on Africa as a future growth market - whether it be air, sea or roadfreight.” Another area of focus is China, where a booming economy has pushed up two-way trade to record levels. “With 15 offices in Mainland China, Kuehne & Nagel are very well positioned to offer the entire supply chain solution,” said Dreyer. Dreyer’s promotion from Durban sales manager to branch manager follows the previous incumbent, Kuben Reddi, having been appointed as national sea freight manager – and based at the company head office in Johannesburg.
