SIGNIFICANT GROWTH in groupage traffic - both imports and exports - on the SA - US route has seen the launch this month by Johannesburg-based CFR Freight of a direct fortnightly service into Port Elizabeth.
Almost a year ago, CFR Freight joined forces with Shipco Transport to offer regular consolidations to and from the States.
A feasibility study conducted among freight agents at the end of last year revealed a demand for a direct service to and from Port Elizabeth, m.d. Uli Hatesohl told FTW.
"In the past PE traffic had to be moved via Europe, or be transhipped in Cape Town or Durban.
"The US conference introduced a bi-weekly direct service into PE recently, which created the opportunity for us." CFR/Shipco offers rates from 16 terminal points throughout the USA.
