AS GROUPAGE volumes between South Africa and Germany continue to show significant growth, CFR Freight's German partner Saco Shipping visited South Africa last week to touch base with CFR staff and clients.
Managing director Harald Pahl and general manager Christian Wahl are upbeat about future growth. "Hamburg is an excellent transhipment hub for worldwide destinations, and the fact that only 30% of our cargo is destined for Germany is evidence of the effectiveness of Hamburg as a global hub," Wahl told FTW in Johannesburg last week. Saco has offices in Hamburg and Bremen.
CFR offers weekly consolidations from Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth to the German port city. East London is served on an inducement basis.
And while the vast majority of cargo represents imports from Germany, the company has seen encouraging growth in South Africa's export portfolio, according to Pahl.
CFR offers consolidations to over 500 destinations worldwide and markets itself as a neutral alternative for the freight forwarding community.
