ARMED GANGS are raiding potato farms near Harare in Zimbabwe as the country’s economic crisis deepens. According to the Herald, a selected group fights the guards while a larger one digs for the potatoes before getting away with their loot. The countryÕs inflation is close to 360% and president Robert MugabeÕs government has so far refused to make an international appeal for food aid, claiming it is importing sufficient quantities of maize meal to feed its 11.6 million people, the Herald states.
