French line adds in-house inland haulage

In line with the group’s global
strategy in Africa, CMA
CGM has set up an inland
distribution subsidiary in the
form of CC Inter Africa – a
joint venture with a South
African company.
This operation was created
in February and is designed
to provide
clients with
a one-stop
shipping
and land
transport
service
offering
road or rail
distribution
of cargoes to
destinations
around
SA and
overborder.
This, according to CC Inter
Africa CEO, Anton Potgieter,
will strengthen CMA CGM’s
development in Africa by
increasing its presence and
pursuing its end-to-end
offering in the southern part
of the continent.
Since it created its first
office in SA in March 2001,
the CMA CGM group has
continued to increase its
presence and development
in the country and in the
region.
The group currently
has more than 1 300
partnerships
through a
network of 72
agencies in 43
countries over
the African
continent. It
also deploys 27
direct services
to Africa,
from Asia,
Europe and the
Mediterranean
Sea, India and
Middle East,
Americas and intra-coastal
Africa.
And it intends to further
strengthen its presence on
the continent by developing
its agencies network,
maritime and inland
services.
On the agency side,
headquartered in Durban,
CMA CGM SA recently
moved to a new office. The
line has also been busy
developing new services.
Since July 1, for example,
CMA CGM has expanded
its service offering with a
new port of call at Maputo,
in Mozambique to serve
the needs of customers
in the Mpumalanga and
Swaziland area. It is the
only line offering a direct
call to the Middle East and
India from Maputo.
The line has also added
considerable muscle to its
team of experts, designed to
strengthen the SA network.
In May, Vitesh Ramphal –
with 15 years of experience
in the shipping industry
– took on the role of MD
of CMA CGM Shipping
Agencies SA, joining the
team of Agnès Lemmonier-
Carpentier, the regional
director of the Southern,
Eastern and Indian
network.
