THE CONTENTIOUS “in bond landed cost” pricing mechanism for fuel will be replaced with a “basic fuel price formula” from April 3, President Thabo Mbeki announced last week. The “basic fuel price formula” works on the principle of import-parity pricing. This will mean that consumers will benefit more quickly when product prices fall - but also get hit instantly by price increases.
