Facilitating after-hours deliveries

Having a stock of containers on site enables Hararebased Alro Transport to deliver empties to clients over weekends and after hours. Alro keeps a stock of containers primarily for Mitsui OSK Lines and Ignazio Messina, for which sister company Alro Shipping is the Zimbabwean agent. “We also store containers for other lines for which we handle the forwarding,” says Rob Follett-Smith, director of Alro Shipping. The company has established an empty container park in Msasa, Harare. “Shipping lines find that having a stock of containers here adds flexibility to their services. In addition to afterhours deliveries we act as a backup during power outages and breakdowns at the other main container yards,” he says.
