Lufthansa Cargo is set to “significantly expand the Cool Centre at its home hub in Frankfurt.
“After five years of success, we want more. That is why we intend to further upgrade and significantly expand our Cool Centre in the coming year,” said Lufthansa Cargo board member, Dr Alexis von Hoensbroech, in a statement.
The Lufthansa Cargo Cool Centre was completed in December 2011. It currently covers 4 500 square metres and features four cold-storage rooms kept at different temperatures (2 to 8 °C, 15 to 25 °C, -12 to -20 °C and 5 to 15 °C) as well as a deep-freeze room and direct access to the apron – making it Europe’s largest airline hub for temperature-sensitive cargo, according to Hoensbroech.
It is expected to cover 8 000 sqm from late summer 2017. Construction on the expansion is due to begin in February 2017
