The Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) has denied what it called “false statements” regarding the safety of the country’s airspace following an illegal strike of air traffic controllers (ATCs) last week.
“The ECAA would like to assure the wider public – as well as airlines, national civil aviation authorities and international and regional bodies – that following the illegal strike by ATCs in Ethiopia, the Area Control Centre in Addis Ababa is being manned by an adequate number of well-trained, highly capable instructors and professionals have the necessary ratings and validation in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organisation (Icao) Annex 1 provisions,” according to a statement released yesterday by the authority.
The ECAA said that these “false statements” had been circulated by the Kenyan Air Traffic Controllers Association in support of the illegal ATC strike and had caused damage to the reputation of the Ethiopian aviation authority.
