Environmentalists shut down Heathrow runway

While the freight industry has voiced its strong support for plans to expand Heathrow Airport, it’s clearly not a majority view.

Several flights had to be cancelled on Monday when a group of activists managed to gain access to the northern runway by cutting through a fence.

According to Reuters, they chained themselves together to protest against the possible expansion of the airport.

They’re part of a group called Plane Stupid which opposes the increase in carbon emissions that the expansion would create.
