On 01 April the South African Revenue Service (SARS) announced an increase of 5.2% in the rate of Environmental Levy on carbon dioxide equivalent in Part 3F of Schedule No.1 to the Customs and Excise Act, 1964 from R127.00/t CO2e emissions to R134.00 /t CO2e emissions.
The increase is to give effect to the 2021 National Budget proposals announced by the Minister of Finance on 24 February 2021, with retrospective effect from 01 January 2021.
The Environmental Levy Items are:
- 157.01 / 9903.00.10 Fuel combustion
- 157.03 / 9903.00.30 Fugitive
- 157.05 / 9903.00.50 Industrial processes
