December 10 sees the launch by Emirates SkyCargo of a daily non-stop flight to Phuket, Thailand operated by an A340-300 with 13-ton belly hold capacity.
This takes the weekly cargo capacity in and out of the country to more than 640 tons spread across four flights to Bangkok and one to Phuket.
“A new trade corridor between Asia and Africa is reinvigorating the sector,” Emirates airline cargo manager South Africa, Kum Naicker, told FTW Online.
“Asia continues to lead the world air cargo industry in average annual growth rates and the air trade between the two continents is already growing at a healthy 6% per year,” he said.
