SkyChain uses Internet or email for a range of services
EMIRATES SKYCARGO has launched Emirates SkyChain, an automated system for the management of cargo logistics which is set to revolutionise the way the airline conducts its cargo business.
Cargo customers can now use the Internet or email to check schedules, trace and track, check space availability and make bookings on-line. They can also make use of an innovative method of booking.
The full network of systems will be released in stages between now and the end of this year, by which time Emirates' original cargo automation system, SITA Fast IV, will have been transformed into a total network of cargo information and business support sytems, all integrated with one another.
"The name reflects our philosophy of playing a greater role in the logistics chain," senior general manager cargo, Ram Menen, told FTW.
"Our vision has always
been an information pipeline through which information can travel and which enables anyone in the supply chain to extract and update the required information for the benefit of all."
Emirates cargo customers can now perform the following functions from anywhere in the world using the Internet or email:
- Check Emirates' flight schedules, which can now be updated within minutes and which are available to customers up to a year in advance;
- Track and trace shipments;
- Check space availability on any Emirates flight;
- Make bookings on-line in real time;
- Register on-line as customers to receive added information and functionality, including email connection to the system;
- As a registered customer, use email to communicate with SkyChain. This enables registered customers and service providers to exchange information with the airline without the need to access the Internet.
- Customers can pass the full airwaybill details to SkyCargo. The airline can use the information and distribute it to any other party in the transportation cycle in line with Emirates' concept of a seamless information pipeline.
