LAST WEEK’s East London Port Festival attracted a record 30 000 guests, the largest attendance in its 15 year history, according to festival chairman Terry Taylor. Ironically the weather - one of the hottest Saturday’s on record - upset plans on the opening day when big swells in the harbour prevented the staging of the Formula I powerboat races which were moved to Sunday. The events brought to an end the final round of the Port Festival powerboat series that took place at the ports of Saldanha, Richards Bay, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth before the finals were staged in East London.
