East and Southern African Region Train-the-Trainer Pilot Workshop

Publish Date:
17 May 2022

On 13 May the World Customs Organization (WCO) announced that its Sub-regional Middle Management Development (MMD) train-the-trainer pilot workshop for the East and Southern African (ESA) region was held from 25 April  to 6 May in Mombasa, Kenya.

Nineteen Customs officers from Botswana, Kenya, Mauritius, South Africa, Uganda, Zimbabwe and the ESA Regional Office for Capacity Building attended the workshop.

The objective of this pilot workshop was to train prospective trainers capable of supporting the implementation of the MMD training programme at national and regional level, as well as pilot the MMD material. During the workshop the participants delivered the training material, exchanged information, and shared their experiences as middle managers.

The MMD is the new third core element of the WCO LMD Programme and addresses middle managers of Customs administrations. It aims to expand the knowledge and understanding of modern management of middle managers, by developing in them the appropriate behaviour and attitude of a modern manager and by equipping them with a set of fundamental skills necessary to manage themselves, teams, stakeholders and the organisational strategy and culture on a daily basis.
