Amendment of the Rules of the Customs & Excise Act (AGOA registration and visa requirements) - 2 March 2001

DUTY CALLS is your weekly look at changes in the South African tariff dispensation and amendments to Customs & Excise legislation. The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has announced that the rules published under sections 13, 46A and 120 of the Customs and Excise Act have been amended to account for the clothing and apparel provisions, in line with the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
However, no visas will be issued under this amendment until the United States Trade Representatives (USTR) have determined that South Africa has satisfied the requirements of AGOA and such determinations published in the Federal Register.
