The quieter business pace over the recent holiday season has done little to alleviate congestion at the Port of Durban. Several shipping lines have reported long delays with several vessels waiting outside the port to berth. “We experienced a lot of delays over Christmas,” DAL Agency SA MD Ron Frick told FTW. “Congestion outside the port is related to the berths that are out of action during port upgrades. In addition a number of Transnet staff were off over the Christmas period, adding to the pressure. “It’s a struggle to maintain schedule integrity under these circumstances and the result is that we’re sometimes forced to omit ports or change rotation to make up for lost time.”
