The department of trade and industry (the dti) has warned of several individuals soliciting fraudulent requests for quotes, claiming to be officials of the dti employed in supply chain management.
A statement issued by the dti says the individuals have identified themselves as Nomsa Bengu, Khanyie Nkosi and Zinhle Khumalo – none of whom are employed by the department.
“Ms Bengu and associates request quotations from business entities under the pretence that they have been selected from the dti supplier database to supply the department with various goods. The fraudsters use falsified RFQs to solicit quotations for goods,” said a dti spokesperson.
The goods include Z10 valves; V+ Arter Master Valves; Deck 18 Energy chip, Salton Jx8 and Energy Deck V 4000 equipment and Conveyor Belts F-120458. The fraudulent RFQs contain the following details: Delivery Address: 13 Laboria Crescent, Industrial II, Upington, 8801 Delivery Contact Person: Mr Tshepo Mosamai or “Irvin” Contact number: 071 006 1493.
It is alleged that the delivery address belongs to a regional office of the dti in Upington. The department, however, does not have a regional office in Upington.
Anyone receiving an RFQ, purchase order or letter of acceptance from any of the above-mentioned individuals is requested to contact the dti Customer Contact Centre on 0861 84 33 84. Alternatively, call 012 394 3377 or 012 394 1935.
The logistics industry is cautioned not to make payment to suppliers for the procurement of any goods or services solicited by the fraudsters.
