The department of trade and industry (Dti) has reported that the department minister, Ebrahim Patel met with Woolworths officials in Cape Town yesterday.
According to the department, the meeting focused on strengthening relations between the retailer and the Government. “We had a very positive discussion and I look forward to working with the company to strengthen key supply chains in South Africa and improve the investment climate,” said Patel.
In a press statement Patel further explains that the retailer is an existing partner in the Master Plan for the Clothing, Textiles and Footwear industry. “This initiative is expected to create 120 000 jobs in the clothing, textiles and footwear retail value chain over the next 10 years,” said Patel
The Minister confirmed that Woolworths remains on board for the initiative.
