DTI launches investment survey

THE DEPARTMENT of Trade and Industry has launched an investment climate survey study designed to establish South Africa’s international competitiveness and to come up with specific measures that need to be addressed in order to improve its status. Conducted with technical assistance from the World Bank Group’s Regional Programme in Enterprise Development (RPED), the survey will benchmark the competitiveness of the South African private sector against other countries in the region as well as major competitor countries. The study will be based on a large-scale survey of 800 firms covering three main sectors: manufacturing, construction and retail and wholesale. This is the first of a series of similar exercises that will be conducted every 3-5 years to assess changes in the investment climate of a country over time.
