Delta Air hints at own US service

DELTA AIR Lines is planning to launch its own direct service between the US and South Africa as a result of the growth of northbound traffic to New York, according to Tim Lees, the London-based Delta Air Lines codeshare co-ordinator.
Delta codeshares with SAA on the direct US/SA service and with Air France on operations via Paris. Apart from increasing passenger loads, the airline is now looking at taking advantage of the increased freight potential, particularly in the textile trade which has been opened up under the AGOA agreement. This allows garments made entirely from all-African sources free entry into the US.
Delta recently opened an office in Cape Town - which it plans to serve directly, apart from flights to Johannesburg from the US. Lees commented at the opening of the office: I wouldn't be surprised to see Delta tail-fins here in the not distant future.
