Custom-designed crates built to suit all commodities

Prolog Packaging and Crating has extended its portfolio to include a range of related services, says Johannesburg-based director Danny Naicker. In addition to its core business, the company now offers consultancy, on site packing, fumigation, marking and labelling of packages, colour coding, bundling and cross bracing to quayside repairs. “We can build any type of crate,” said Naicker. “Our crates are customdesigned according to the commodity to be packed, handling requirements and the mode of transport to be utilised. We lend our expertise from a preshipment planning phase until cargo is packed and secured for export (including fragile handling, packing and lashing into containers and destination requirements pertaining to timber usage). “An example of our ability to customise is that our airfreight crate is built from plywood to lessen the packaging weight. We build crates as large as 6m containers (6x2.5x 2.5m), to your standard crates (1x1x1m), as well as skids for breakbulk shipments These varieties are made without compromising the integrity of the cargo, while finding a cost-effective packaging and crating solution,” he said.
