Construction date set for Angolan deep-water port

The first phase of construction of the future deep-water port of Caio in Angola’s Cabinda province is due to begin in December, reports Angolan news agency Angop.

Quoting provincial governor, Aldina da Lomba Catembo, Angpop reports that construction of the port is expected to cost around US$600 million.

According to the Port of Caio website, the first of three phases of this project will include new port premises and a 100-hectare equipment storage facility that includes industrial storage and logistics offices. The second phase will see the construction of a 1 550-metre commercial dock and in the third phase the dock will be extended to 1 995 metres.

“The project is directly aligned with the plans of Government of Angola to reconstruct and improve the road and rail infrastructure within the region,” said a Port of Caio spokesperson.
