Coega invites tenders for IT infrastructure

THE COEGA Development Corporation (CDC) has called for proposals from the IT sector for the design and development of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure for the multi-billion rand Coega industrial development zone. The Coega IDZ is being developed alongside the new deepwater port of Ngqura near Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape. “This is an indication that the Coega Project has now advanced to a stage where attention has moved to ICT systems, which will play a critical role in positioning the IDZ as a globally competitive environment,” says CDC project manager: ICT & eBusiness, Monde Mawasha. The CDC’s procurement policy points to tenderers with a black economic empowerment component, historically disadvantaged individuals in management, women equity ownership, local enterprise ownership and SMMEs that are affirmable business enterprises. The procurement document is available on line at www.coega.com. Respondents have until February 10, 2003 to submit proposals.
