Airfreight customers using Lufthansa can now have the CO2 emissions of their shipments calculated during the booking process thanks to the launch last month (November) of a newonline booking portal, eBooking.
With the integrated carbon calculator, all customers have the opportunity to determine the CO2 emissions caused by the transport and to offset them in the future. At the end of November, Lufthansa Cargo and DB Schenker had already carried out the first CO2-neutral freight routing, which was completely covered by Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
The offer was jointly developed by Lufthansa Cargo and Compensaid, the central compensation platform of the Lufthansa Group. Once customers have determined their CO2 emissions, they can offset them by using SAF.
In addition, it is also possible to offset through reforestation projects. If SAF is used, Compensaid ensures that the corresponding sustainable fuel is purchased and fuelled to compensate for the resulting emissions.
