Although Freight News doesn’t ordinarily cover awards, there are always exceptions, especially when a big one is scooped up, as is the case with Justin Goedhart, junior trade lane coordinator with CFR Freight and member of the South African Association of Freight Forwarders (Saaff).
This after the Federation of International Freight Forwarders Associations (Fiata), and the international freight transport insurer, TT Club, announced the global winner of the Young International Freight Forwarder of the Year Award.
A statement issued after yesterday’s announcement said: “Fiata and TT Club are proud to announce that Justin Goedhart, the regional winner of Region Africa and Middle East, representing Saaff, South Africa, has been awarded the title of Young International Freight Forwarder of the Year.”
TT Club’s managing director for loss prevention, Michael Yarwood, said: “With his dissertation, presentation and video today focused on the international shipment of rhinos and large ball mill, Justin has demonstrated exemplary understanding, knowledge and passion for his profession – showing how the next generation is truly resilient and adequately equipped to meet the current and future challenges of the supply chain.”
CFR CEO Dave Graham said: “This represents a remarkable achievement in the context of the quality of the competition.
“Justin has demonstrated the amazing capabilities that our local industry has to offer and has shown that we have the talent to compete on the global stage.
“Justin has done himself, all of us at CFR Freight, and the country as a whole, very proud.
“I cannot think of a better brand ambassador for us and a shining example of the success of our people development programme.”
Goedhart’s recognition for shedding light on the challenges facing freight forwarders in respect of sustainable development and live animal commodities couldn’t come at a better time for the company, which is on the verge of a name change to SACO CFR.
This emerged after the neutral consolidator announced in September that they had embarked on a rebranding exercise in partnership with their majority shareholder, SACO Shipping GmbH in Germany.
The new brand comes into effect on New Year’s Day.
