Negotiations for a new collective work agreement (CWA) between cargo carrier Cargolux and Luxembourg Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (LCBG) have stalled and a strike is on the cards if conciliation fails.
According to reports, the two parties are at an impasse after the latest negotiations ground to a halt following renewed talks on 14 January.
In a statement issued in December last year, Cargolux management announced its decision to repudiate the CWA: “Negotiations between the unions and management over the previous months for a new CWA have not resulted in any substantive progress being made.”
If the conciliation process fails “the unions have the right to start industrial action,” warned the LCBG. The union has petitioned for a ‘scope clause’ in the CWA negotiations that is aimed at safeguarding jobs of union pilots.
