AT Freight -X Cargo Solutions, airfreight business like any other form of transport offered by the Johannesburg-based firm, can be handled more cost-effectively compared to larger “brand” firms, according to company director Eugene Watson. “The business is dominated by the ‘brands,’ but smaller companies do the same thing more cheaply,” said Watson. A brokerage house that ships “everything and anything” for customers large and small to any location by any means, Freight-X contracts specialised firms to handle sea, air, road and courier services, clearing and forwarding, warehousing and the like. For larger customers, it is not just that Freight-X can provide the services of a larger brand name for 15% cheaper, Watson said, but the “under one roof” advantage a single shipping broker offers frees a company of having to deal with five or six service providers. Freight-X also targets the man on the street. Most average folk may have heard of FedEx or DHL, but are mostly at sea when it comes to transporting personal items. “We are a small, agile company, and what we provide and what our customers respond to is personalised service,” he said.
