It’s all about changing mindsets, says 35-year-old Audrey Mngomezulu who has completed all the necessary training to enter the traditionally male-dominated trucking industry.
Armed with her CODE 14 licence, Professional Driving Permit (PDP), Dangerous Goods Permit, and having recently completed training at driving training and testing centre Innovative Learning Solutions (ILS), Mngomezulu says she is ready to take on the industry.
“I love trucks. It’s been that way since I was young,” says Mngomezulu.
“Driving is gender-neutral. It is not reserved for a specific sex but studies have proven that women generally are safer drivers than men, yet there are fewer of us driving professionally.”
She was ILS’s first female candidate.
