Botswana has put its money where its mouth is with the upgrading and rehabilitation of several roads as well as three airports in the country. According to Anthony Sefako of the Botswana export development and investment authority (Bedia), the first bitumen road was constructed in 1965. Since then a road network has been established spanning more than 6700km. The construction of new roads is ongoing as is the maintenance and rehabilitation of the current network. “We have also revamped the airport in Gaborone while the upgrading of airports in Maun and Kasane is under way. All of these efforts are aimed at establishing and promoting Botswana as a trade hub.”
