THE UNITED Kingdom and Zimbabwe are a few ties shorter following an announcement by British Airways that flights between Harare and the UK have been suspended after 75 years of service. “The route has been making a considerable loss over the past few years. We operate in a highly competitive global market and cannot afford to sustain these losses on the Harare route any longer,” said Steve Harrison, British Airways area commercial manager South East West Africa. The airline’s decision coincides with a threatened boycott by British Prime Minister Gordon of the African Union and European Union summit meeting in Lisbon in December if Zimbabwean leader Robert Mugabe is allowed to attend.
